Unteach Racism.

- Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand -
Unteach Racism is a ripple in the wider efforts to dismantle racism in Aotearoa. But it’s these ripples that build a current of change, which in time, I hope, will sweep away the prejudices that exist in our society.
— Nicola Ngarewa, Board Chair

Empowering those with the power to unteach.

UNTEACH RACISM lays a challenge to those most able to dismantle racism inside our classrooms, our kaiako, our teachers.

It features celebrated film-maker Taika Waititi, who is also featured in the nation-wide Give Nothing to Racism campaign. Reflecting on his own experiences of classroom racism, Taika Waititi recounts the difference an Unteacher can make and challenges teachers across Aotearoa to start their own structured journey to unlearn racial bias using an unlearning tool.

This tool allows teachers to grow their own knowledge and understanding of racism. It includes advice for teachers to self-reflect and ways to facilitate open conversations about racism with colleagues on how to identify, confront and start to dismantle racism within the education system.
